What to do if I want buy used car from someone in UK that is origtinally from (car) USA and bring it?

Or, to be gramatically correct: What do I have to do if I want to buy a used car that is from the USA, and bring it to Canada, if the person selling it is in the UK with the car, but placed the car on sale in the Canadian market and will ship it to me? Do I have to register it as an international or American import if it is an American car to begin with?

  1. That's probably a scam advert, be well aware. I went through a process of selling my car in the UK and I got lot's of offers from overseas offering me money in advance ..... all financial scams. Check out this website, the one I advertised my car at. Lot's of advice, it makes interesting although scary reading. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/CARS/news/AUTOTRADER/ADVICE/38245.html There's plenty of advice for buying and selling the car. In case you had the seller verified... Technically speaking, a US car imported to the UK had to undergo a lot of modifications (indicators, brake lights, etc.) to comply with the UK laws. The British importer had to pay duty, VAT (sales tax) and road tax every year. It became a British car so to import such a car to Canada, you'd have to remove all British mods to comply with Canadian laws and pay duties and customs.
