Overhaulin'

i am going to pay cash to buy a used car and i have a few questions?

well, by this beginning, it sounds idiotic. but really what i want to know is, after you give the guy cash for his car. you get the title, registration, keys. but he wont give you his tag. for this i want to know, can i drive this car home with no tag.as soon as i buy it, im driving it home. and i do have insurance. im 21 and im still young. ive had my parents come with me to get my cars, so this could be the first time im all alone in this car buying process. im not scared, but people that aren't experienced can be easily taken advantage of. so this dont sound so stupid. also since the folks think this car is too old, i will take a bus ride by myself to go get it. im going from orlando fl to fort myers fl. which is a 4 hour bus ride. i will have cash in hand from selling my '62 galaxie. here it is: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct…

  1. You will get the title (which he has to sign over to you) and the keys. Ask for a bill of sale while you're at it (with the date and selling price clearly printed on it). When you get back to the city you live in you'll take the title and the bill of sale to the DMV where you'll get a new title in your name, registration, and tags. Make you sure have the car added to your insurance before you drive it home since you're more likely to get pulled over for not having tags.
  2. You could always go to the nearest DMV . The question is are you transferring your old plates or get new ones. If you get new ones you will get a temporary plate until your plates come in the mail. If you insist on going strait home you can take the risk of being pulled over and even if you show the title that you just bought the car some cops might give you a fine for non registration. Why pay more, just map out a dmv in Fort Myers and get it done.
  3. you need to go to the DMV and get the title transferred into your name along with the previous owner and there you can get a temporary tag so you can drive it and before you even leave home you need to contact your insurance co. and tell them you are buying another car and ask them what you have to do to be covered.
