How do I determine the value of a custom classic car?
its a 66 el camino custom. Do I just go by book value? Its about 90% restored and many parts have been replaced with high performance racing parts and it does not have the original engine. Do I factor in the cost of all the modifications? This is mainly for insurance issues as I do not plan on selling it.

- How much would you be willing to pay for one? that's what it needs to be insured for. there are appraisers that do that sort of thing. check the yellow pages.
- ASk your self how much it would cost to replace it. Restoration of another ElCamino or purchasee of one already restored, plus the costs of all modifications- engine , transmission, wheels, tires, etc. Then add at least 20% to that figure. Insure it for replacement, and over insure it. You will pay for the amount insured for but it is better to pay more and get your money back if totaled or stolen than to only get a couple thousand.
