is powdercoating or painting a classic car frame better for resale?
I'd like to restore my 1960 impala convertible to 100% stock condition. Will powdercoating the frame, suspension and engine compartment pieces (in a color matching the stock black paint) detract from the value and score of a 100 point resto?

- i think it would add more than painting would as it is more durable.
- If it didn't come on the car from the factory in 1960 it will detract from the value and most certainly any points in a competition. Originality is the key to a 100 point restoration. I don't know the facts but I doubt if powdercoating the frame was standard practice in the GM factories back in the early 60s.
- Your best bet is to join a internet forum focused on Chevrolet products and ask there. Those type of specialty forums will have members who restore similar cars and dealers who buy these cars. they can give you a definitive answer.
- Many people tend to "over-restore" cars. If you are going for a completely factory correct 100 point car, don't powdercoat anything. That process was not used in 1960. It would detract from your total score.
