Overhaulin'

Do you think if the American car companies significantly lowered the prices on new cars?

And worked with the dealerships...to liquidate the stock piles of vehicles...do you think they would be able to sell most of the stock? I think even overseas would be promoted to buy more american cars if they were more affordable. Just an idea. think it would work?

  1. not at all
  2. Much of the price of American autos over seas is foreign government tariffs enacted to protect their own industries. As far as in this country, selling vehicles for less than the cost to build them would be as bad as not selling the vehicles at all - it might clear the inventories but it would leave little or no capital to continue operations. Best if they just slow their production down to match the times and revamp when the economy improves.
  3. You can definitely get more $$$ off from a new Chrysler or GM now that they are in bankruptcy and are about to close 800 and 1100 dealerships, respectively. American cars oversees generally cost more because of tariffs imposed. I don't think that would change.
