Should teenager deserve new cars like 2009 and 2010 models and above if they work hard for it and save money?

I am asking this question because my son has been working hard a year and I am suprised he did what he said which was to save $300 a week out of his paychecks ($1,200 a month saved/$14,400 a year).

  1. wow you have a good son because i'll probably save like $20 a week out of my paycheck. go ahead give him a brand new car
  2. yes you should be very proud of your son not tomany teens these days are that responsible that shows a lot about the man he'll be in the future, most teens these days are spoiled and want everything handed to them, great job mom
  3. As long as he isn't into drugs or anything bad then I would say give him a nice car don't cheap out n get him a car with his money. He has given you almost $15,000 so give him a great car that he does deserve.
  4. yes and if he does wreck it like the majority of new drivers, it will be a powerful learning experience
  5. most definitely, he worked really hard for that. i don't know anyone who has done that. it shows he's very responsible and deserves it. but i agree with that other person, as long as he doesn't do drugs, get it for him.
  6. I can't believe I'm going to say this but I think he should get a used car. What about insurance, gas and co-signing? Are you going to buy that for him too? However, if you feel that your son is responsible enough and would like to reward him then go right ahead. It'll be a good gift.
  7. well he did his part, and if it was a deal (that you buy him a new car if he saves that) then you should live up to your end of the deal! However, teens get reckless with new cars (especially when they are with friends) and 40% of new drivers have an accident within their first 12 months of driving. I'm not sure if you want to get him a new car since it might get wrecked (not saying that he would not be responsible with it though!). Insurance is also higher on a new car than an older car, and if something bad does happen (God forbid), the insurance would only raise up for him. Strategically, getting him a older used car (circa 2000 or so) would probably be the better choice - but if you feel he would be responsible with the car and he deserves it (which he seems since he saved that much), go ahead and get him the newest one on the lot!
  8. Have him save another 6 months and he can buy a new car.
