Good way to get multiple car insurance quotes?

We're looking at getting a car but not sure which one yet. A consideration is the insurance costs, but I don't want to ring up an insurer and give half a dozen car makes to them to get a quote, and besides we won't know the reg or even the age of the car yet. Is there some way I can make a comparrison without all the hassle? Say some site where it says the average insurance for an age group?

1. Well...if you want hassle-free then an agent is the best bet. They do all the work and all you have to do is give them the car information.
2. getting quotes on line is unreliable and often inaccurate. Stick with a real insurance company that has a local office and a real live human agent
