- The "effective date" (Effective date : 12/20/2009) means just that... you've been covered since 12:01 a.m. on that date. You said: ( just bought insurance from Geico on 12/29/2009 ) How's that possible when today is just the 22nd? But anyway...you'll be calling your Geico claims agent today, right?
- If your policy says effective 12/20, then it's effective 12/20. I presume you mean you purchased the policy on 12/19, not 12/29. Just so you know, a comprehensive loss 2 days after a policy is purchased is an automatic trigger for an investigation for some companies. Don't be surprised if they ask you lots of questions.
- You are covered
- of course you are covered. legally they cannot reject you coverage. this would be a comprehensive claim as long as you did not swerve to hit the deer. it will not cause your rates to increase.
- The investigation will focus on whether the deer incident occurred before you obtained the policy. As long as there was an inspection beforehand there would be no question, this situation shows the downside of buying over the internet, where they rely on your testimony of the car's prior condition. Luckily a car-deer collision is not something easily staged.
