Teenage insurance and quote?

Hi everyone, I'm a teenager about to get my license soon, i've got a job so i'm planning on paying for my own insurance and buy my own car and stuff, with minimal to no help for my parents. Since I'm very new at this I'm not exactly sure what to do or what everything means, so my question is What exactly do i have to do to get insurance and what is a quote? when they say "get a free quote" or something like that what does that mean? If there's anything else about car insurance that i need to know please let me know...looking for a detailed answer. Thanks.

  1. The best place to get an idea, without entering a lot of personal information is thegeneral.com You don't have to buy anything. They don't run a credit check either just to give you the information.
  2. Go talk to a local agent. A quote is an estimate of how much the insurance costs. Free quotes, well, they're ALWAYS free. No one charges for a quote. There are 50 different sets of detailed answers - one for each state. So without having a CLUE which state you are in, the best place to go for a detailed answer, is either your state insurance department website, or a local insurance agent.
