Is it right for the Government to use tax payers money to discount new cars?
After years of making motorists out to be the worse thing that could ever happen to the planet, is it right to use tax payer's money to give discounts on on new car purchases? Surely anyone who can afford to buy a brand new car will probably not be driving a banger anyway, so it's nothing to do with the environment but just another tax break for the more well off.. again. Paid for by the less well off.

- No!!!!! It is time the government stopped spending and started paying off some of the mountain of debts which it has accumulated. I also believe that most of the money would go to people who don't need it and that most of it would finish up in the pockets of foreign car manufacturers.
- When people on the car manufacturing line are making $70 or more an hour, that's the fault of the unions and the companies. That's why people were paying well over $30 K for a car. Foreign made vehicles have a more reliable track record in dependability and resale value. Why didn't the US manufacturers get on board with other countries making reliable vehicles versus pimped out soccer mom vans?
- Darned if you do, darned if you don't..... Cars are big ticket items that help keep the economy green and LOTS of people employed. Conventional wisdom may be that the green of the planet is just now less important than these other factors, would be my thought. Nobody can ever accuse governments of taking a long view.
