How do I re-title my car?

Recently paid off the car and the loan company said I should get it re-titled.

  1. Go to your local Secretary of State office.
  2. take your title to the dmv, and have it printed out in your name, because I think when you finace a car the bank owns that car so I think there name is on the title. I have never financed a car before but I think thats how it works
  3. After you pay off the loan, the bank will send you the title. Ask them what they mean...it's possible they've lost the title and you need a duplicate. If so, your DMV can handle that.
  4. after pay -off they should send you a paper signing off onthe vehicle ,take this to dmv and they will issue a new title with you as registered and LEGAL owner, previously you were registerd owner and they were legal owner
  5. dmv
  6. Take the title to a title agent, the DMV or mail it to the DMV with the appropriate fee to have the lienholder's name removed, and a new title issued in your name only, as registered/legal owner. The back of the title should show where to send it, the website will tell you the fee, usually minimal, maybe 10-20bucks.
  7. WHY DON'T YOU JUST CALL YOUR LOCAL DMV OFFICE, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY AND ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS.
