My new car was totaled. The insurance company called and they want the car title. Do I charge them?
The insurance company paid off my loan for the totaled car. Before the car was totaled, I had to pay approximately $300 for the title and registration fees. Is the insurance company resposible for reimburing me for the title? They called the other day and said they need the title to sell my car to a salvage company.

- yeah boy
- No you can't charge them for that. About the only thing you can do is say you lost it, if you are that upset about it.
- You could try but I doubt it'll work, heck they just forked over thousands of dollars cause either you were a dumba** or you were in the wrong place at the wrong time!!!
- if your car was paid off then you should have the title. If it is a new car then you probably financed it and the bank has the title. the insurance company will have to pay the car off to complete the lein on the car and the bank will send them the title. You should not have to pay anything for a copy of the title from your banking institution. the money you paid when you bought the car was for paperwork and titling the car new. YOu will not have to pay it again.
- the car legally belongs to them, they paid of the loan,so it's fare to give then the title!
- If you accepted and cashed your check as settlement, then you may not be able to negotiate the $300.00 fee! You may have to contact a lawyer, but that will cost $300 or more!!!!!! Talk with the insurance company first! but, if you cashed your check, they could have cause to take you to court for it, ruining your credit record, causing lost work pay, time, more money and effort on your part!
