Are Hyundai Accents good for a first car?

I am getting my new car soon and I am considering to purchase a Hyundai accent. I've done the research and have found mixed reviews about the car. It's either very good or very bad...so I would like to know an opinion from someone who has experience with this car. wow...>,< thanks for the warning!

1. have the car checked out by a mechanic before you buy
2. Well in quality it's good, but it's a death trap. The IIHS(Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave the Accent poor ratings in safety. Plus, the anti-lock brake system aren't standard and the electronic stability control is not available(and the ESC will be required). So if you like to die in a car you should buy this. If not you should look at the Honda Fit Sport or a Scion xD.
