Selling a car with a lien on it?
I need to sell my car, but I owe more than it's worth, and the car has a lien on it. I'm not sure where to start. I would appreciate any advice anyone might offer.

- I think it might be illegal to sale you car with a lien.
- More often than not, the lien holder will have the title and it's pretty difficult to find a buyer who will purchase a vehicle without the title. If you do, the buyer will find that he/she cannot register the vehicle and the whole transaction will become a serious fiasco and a definite hassle.
- Yes, you can sell it to a dealer or anyone you wish. But the loan has to be satisfied first. Since no one will give you what you owe, you would have to make up the difference. For example, you owe $10,000 and Carmax offers to buy your car for $6000. You would need to write them a $4000 check for them to payoff your loan.
