Are all car salesmen jerks? How do I buy new cars online?

I have had some unbelievable experiences with new car salesmen the past few days---How does one buy a new van from an American manufacturer online?

  1. Go to the company website, pick you vehicle type, color and options. many times there are packages, a group of options/extras available together for less than the individual prices including a lot of doo dads that you won't think of ordering, like 2 trip meters, heated mirrors, nice THINGS but hardly necessary. That's what all those trim line names are for, LX is luxury, G T or S =Gran Tourimo or Sport for performance
  2. You cant. And you'd be silly for trying.
  3. Not all are jerks. I bought a car from a nice and helpful one in the 90's. Recently, he had a stroke and retired and several people mentioned him online. Go to the car company's website and most have "build your car" websites. Write down the options and colors you want. Next, go to the website of car dealers and e-mail them. Or call them and ask the receptionist if they have an internet salesman and e-mail them. Consider dealing with two dealers 50 miles away, saying you are extra business for them. It's true because you aren't going to drive there to visit their showroom. They will likely give you a good price. Then you can compare it with local dealers, who may think that you are hostage and must buy from them (which is not true if you have good quotes from out of town dealers). I got a good quote from a dealer in the next state. As I got closer to home, the dealers wanted more but one agreed to my offer, which was below the far away dealer. Another time, I bought the car out of state.
