If I was to buy my car Tax Disc online today, could I drive it legally?

If i buy my car road tax online today, could I drive my car legally? I don't get the disc till 4-5 days but it would be on their system that ive bought the tax... I'm waiting for my insurance docs to come thru, but need to drive the car tonight!

1. would be faster to go down and pay for it get it today not in 6 weeks
2. yes it would be on the system that you have paid the VED so any automated check would knwo that you had paid the tax however there is another part tot he VEDE legistaltion which is failure to display, and that is when your vehicle is seen without a VED disc. even if you have VED this is a separate offence. however its unlikely that you will get caught
3. Its quicker getting it done at the post office.Also it saves you £2.50 doing it this way.
