buying a new car - gas consumption concerns?

I am in Thailand and want to know what to expect - I currently have a 1.6 liter engine that is quite good on gas but uses gasohol which is more expensive than diesel. If I move up to a 2.5 liter diesel, considering that diesel is abt 20% less expensive - can I figure this on a direct math level or is there more involved?

  1. More. Diesel gives you more miles per tankful - quite a big difference. BUT Needs more servicing - usually every 5000 miles or less compared with every 12000 for European or Japanese type petrolcars. Slower. More polluting. Price differential may not last. Messier to fuel.
  2. Hyundai Accent is available in 3cyl diesel, I think you can buy it in Thailand. Extremely good fuel consumtion however its not a fast car, max speed is only 160km/h but takes a long time to get to that speed. The better the fuel consumption, usually the slower the car.
