Overhaulin'

My Car has done over 90k but has a brand new engine.. can the mileage be set again to 0?

I have an '01 1.8 zetec ford focus, It's don't about 92,000 miles, and last week the engine blew. Been told by the garage that something in the timing seized and the valves are all bent. Instead of writing a huge cheque, I've bought a NEW engine (quite cheap and 0 miles.. never used) that is exactly the same as the old one for a direct swap. Now how will this affect the mileage of the car? My own thoughts say that it won't, but the new engine will allow the car to do another 90k without many more problems hopefully and would make it worth a fair bit more.. BUT technically, after another 90k the car will technnically have done 180k.. which.. is a fair amount for this type of car and would make it worth very veyr little. Any insight? Other info.. new head plus a needed new clutch would've been nearly £2000, new engine off of ebay was £500! (complete)!

  1. It can be reset, but is illegal to do so. The mileage is for the mileage assosciated with the car, not just the motor. The body of the car has 90k, the suspension has 90k, the transmission has 90k, etc...
  2. Not legal.
  3. nope cause its not a new car its a old car with new motor stil has the same mileage NEW engine wow bet that cost you like 5000 bucks 0 miles.. never used im guessing it came from a dealership like stil same car stil sam emiles just new motor which cant do anything about coul dreplacer dask but stil has to be listed with that many miles so thinking what luck that the garage just happen to have one or find a new one so cheap im not sure but new head might have been cheaper
  4. you have decided to put the money into it,now just drive it til it drops again.you will get another 8 years hopefully and it will be way cheaper than a new car my honda has 313000 on it and the five hundred i just spent on it in a year is two months payment on a new car
  5. first it is illegal to tamper with the odometer on the car , and even if you did set the mileage back if car has ever been serviced buy dealer , or quick change , etc. it will be on record as that mileage . then would make carfax or similar come back with odometer fraud , best thing thing is to keep receipts with date just to prove when and what you had done.
  6. If an 80 year old man receives a heart transplant from a 30 year old person, does it make him 30? Or does he become an 80 year old with a newer part?
  7. do not reset the odometer!!!!!! everything else will have 90k+ miles. the car will have to be titled as a car with x number of miles with a engine replaced at this many miles. keep an eye on everything else. a new engine means nothing if your transmission is crap
