Paying someone to drive your car across the country?

I'm doing a huge road trip in the USA for 2 months, then spending a couple of months in Canada. I don't want to use my car in Canada as the distances are so huge. And i don't want to sell it as i'm doing another 3 months in the US after. So how could i get my car from Vancouver......to Winnipeg? Are there people you can pay to drive it? Companies, obviously. Any idea of costs? And like, i wouldn't get to Winnipeg for maybe 2 months....... what could i do with the car, where can i keep it safe?

  1. ask a friend to meet you there
  2. why dont you buy a little old banger each place then flog it when you leave.
  3. You could put it on Canadian Rail and send it by train to Winnipeg and then you'd have it when you finally got there.
  4. My family and I hired a car for a day in Jamaica. We took or car from Montego Bay to Kingston for about $500. There were only for of us though and Kingston is only 3 hours drive from Mo Bay. We had frequent stops though (basically whenever we wanted to) and since my family is Jamaican, we didn't get ripped off. Hope that gives you an idea of price, but I would suggest to hook up with someone who knows the US and the route you're going and that you or someone you trust knows them (people are very shady in this day and age). Or, you could take the train like someone suggested. Good luck! Sounds like fun :o)
  5. Paying for someone to drive your vehicle for you is (probably) more expensive than simply shipping it from A to B. Definitely will be, if you have to find some way to reliably store it at the other end for a couple of months! Besides, I *think* that most transport companies like the one given in the attached link will be able to store it at the final destination for a small fee, because you're moving from a large center (Vancouver) to a large center (Winnipeg). Your best bet for costing would be to contact a company like this and see what they charge (both transport and end-of-run storage).
  6. most car carrier companies won't want to store your vehicle for the 2 months.... it's going to need to sit somewhere for those 2 months... this is going to take someone you know to help you out on this (I wouldn't trust it with a stranger or you may never see your car again) maybe you can just sell it where you're done with it, and then buy where you'll need a car again
