Are you still going to buy an American car?
Did you know that in the $14 billion auto bailout there is a little known provision? It reads something like this. In order to better protect the American taxpayer we the gov't of the US are naming American car owners as as a guarantor of all loans to GM, Ford and Chrysler. What this means is that if one or more of these companies does not repay the loan you as an American car holder can and probably will be liable!! US gov't officials have stated that the defaulted loans would be be prorated and added to all registered owners of American cars tax liability in the US. Does this make you think twice about buying domestic? Does it mean you will try to sell your American made car? . I can't believe how stupid some people in this country are. We complain about gov't bailouts and then the next day we reward those same companies with a purchase. A true American buys a Japanese car. Anybody with a brain knows a Ford is another name for junk. In a free economy one should buy the product that gives them the best value for the money paid. Well I should not have to tell you this, but in the car industry that is a Toyota!! Anyone who believes they are somehow helping th US economy by buying domestic is either very naive or just stupid!! Buying a product you know is junk (A domestic car) just drags down the economy and lowers not only your standard of living but the country's as a whole. Gov't protectionism did not work during the great depression of the 1930's and consumer protectionism will not work now!! So do your country the USA a favor and let's show the corrupt US auto industry enough is enough. Buy a Toyota. Thank you To imbecile below who called me a liberal. you're the liberal but just to stupid to know/!! I believe in a free market. You want to buy products based on where they are made!! Liberals promote protectionism I buy products based on the value and unless you are some kind of moron you can't with a straight face say an American made car is anywhere near as good as a Japanese built car. You (the American made car industry) can most likely compete on quality with a Chinese built car and probably a European car but up against Tond Honda you fail miserably. Also to the person who mentioned his alternator. Your Toyota's lasted 150,000 miles. Let me guess how many miles your Ford's alternator lasted, maybe 40,000 if you are lucky.

- No. Just picked up another Ford Ranger. The ranger I had for the past 7 years dropped the tranny at 264k. Reliable, reliable, reliable.
- LOL, funny but untrue. I wouldn't buy a yank car anyway, -Edit- Oh goodness me, four thumbs down already o.O Don't get me wrong, Ford makes good cars. They just sell them outside of the US. Same with GM. The American models are rubbish though. I have a hard time understanding why Americans like them so much. I suppose it's their patriotism (ie must have American made)?
- Just Ford. I'm a Dodge man, but Ford seems to be the most stable of the big three. edit: I like Toyota too. But I take insult to being called stupid. I've been studying the car market for the past few years. Ford is the only one I've noticed adapting in and out of the country. As I said before, I don't like Ford. But it is the most stable. I want to take care of American workers. But we'll see what happens when I buy a car soon.
- That won't happen.. you need some actual written proof for that claim... and yes.. I will continue to buy American cars, and I think we all should. It's time we took our country back from foreign interests....
- Define "American Made". Of of the parts the big three use to produce a car, an average of 40% are manufactured outside North America. Many of the "foreign" makes have plants right here in the U.S. But they aren't asking for any bailout money, are they?
- I have so many American cars my place looks like a used car lot. 88 Bronco II, 00 Chev Astro, 03 Ranger, 03 ZX2, 08 Nitro, hell no I won't sell them.
- I have an american car at the moment and it will be my last american car, EVER! Not only is it a piece of crap, but the repairs are ridiculously overpriced. All my friends that have foreign cars are really pleased with the performance of their cars and don't seem to have to repair them as often. So, seeing as how the government is seeing fit to bail out the jerks who have sold me a lemon, I say screw them and will never buy american again. No one is bailing me out of debt, gee/sus.
- If you think that Fords are junk.. then thats your choice. I own domestics and imports and find the domestics to be just as reliable not to mention FAR CHEAPER to repair and maintain. Just recently had to replace the alternator on a 99 Maxima with 150k miles. The wheel.. wheel well liner.. and radiator had to be removed to install and the alternator was $185. On a Ford.. the alternator would cost half that amount and it would be a simple 15-30 minute bolt on replacement. EDIT/ Just replaced the alternator in my ford ranger last summer at 225k miles. It lasted longer than the alternator in my JDM.. and cost half as much.
- hey F*** you you liberal hippy...who the hell are YOU to tell me i cant drive my chevy? by the way, the big three is the basic core of the american car market. what would america be without them? by the way... american cars are better.
- ill take the corvette z06
- no i like sports cars umm and the only GOOD sports car they make is C6 vette so no japan just needs to buy GM
