Has anyone heard of a second hand car sale?

I'm looking into this as a possible part time business. In short I will provide a venue where people selling their cars can book a space for the day(like a car boot sale but selling the cars)to show off and sell their cars to potential buyers. I will also have a mechanic on hand for the day to help checks with cars. Has anyone been to such an event, if so I would be interested to find out where any are held. Many Thanks

  1. Nice idea - I've not heard of it before & it could well be a goer. You'd need to very carefully work out some disclaimers & ensure sellers & buyers share any liability.
  2. Why would anyone pay to do that? What happens if your mechanic misses something big and someone complains? A better thought would be to have people tell you what car they are looking for and you go find it for them, have it checked out and then present 2 or 3 of what they want for them to choose from. Just a thought.........
  3. Great idea but getting planning permission for the change of use for the land to that will be tough and getting the correct insurance expensive - could work though so I may nick your idea and go nationwide with it.
  4. Why would people bother, there are car auctions in almost every city. A seller would get more prospective bidders at one of the British car Auctions sales.
  5. Check SCVAutoFair.com We have a retired sherriff that runs the Auto Fair. It is open only on weekends and he rents a parking lot from our local community college. He does not actually sell the cars for you he just shows them to the prospective buyers. If someone want to test drive or buy, they call the owner. The charge is $149 total which includes advertising on the web site. If the car sells the first week they refund $50. You can show the car for as many weekends as it takes to sell it for the one charge. It works out really well, I have sold approximately 6 vehicles there over the past 3 years.
  6. i live in the midlands ..couple of years ago a guy started something just like that ...it went very well ...then the planners made him shut it down ....what have you got for plan b?
