How do I sell my car that has a lien on it?

I'm trying to sell my car to a guy that lives about 5 hours away from me. I currently have a loan on the car, so it does have a lien on the title. My bank is telling me that it takes 4 days to process the payoff and get a lien release. How do I go about getting this all to work out within one day so the guy can take the car home with him?

1. somewhat difficult. unless the buyer is a moron, he will not write you a check for your asking price. he MIGHT write a check to the lender for the loan payoff amount, and another to you for the excess... after you both execute a signed written contract. there might be better way to handle this; hopefully an expert in this kind of thing will give you a known good answer. caution: a "long-distance" buyer is a classic indication of a scam. be VERY skeptical, unless you already know the buyer.
2. If you cant walk in to the bank & walk out with the title after paying it off, you have a problem. Unless the buyer is financing through another bank and the buyers bank works it out with your bank. Most cash buyers aren't going to pay without getting the title and the car at the time they hand over the cash. Otherwise, people could sell their cars, keep the money and not pay off the loan.
