Trying to sell an old car to a salvage yard?

I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra GT Hacback blue with leather interior that has been sitting in my garage for about 1 1/2 years and I was wondering what would a salvage yard give me for it. It has about 110,000 miles but it does not run anymore. You best guess is okay?

  1. Not very much...a few hundred $$ ?? How about donating it to Salvation Army - they will tow it for free and give you a receipt for tax purposes :}
  2. Probably less than a hundred bucks - these days scrap metal values are really low. You might do better to get a tax deduction and donate it to goodwill or the salvation army.
  3. Not much and if they have to tow it they will not want to pay anything at all. You would do much better to put it on Craigslist. A private person would be willing to pay a fair price--for a non-running car. I would guess $1000 would be the upper limit. But don't listen to me! Listen to yourself. Does it just need a jump--or is the engine block cracked?
