How to get insurance on a classic car for a 16 year old?
All the insurance company's I looked at say that they have to register my car as a classic and that nobody under the age of 25 can drive it. Ok so that doesn't work out too well for me because I'm only 16. The car is a '68 chevelle Malibu with a 454. The whole car is completely restored we currently have AAA but are looking for another company to cover the car need help

- You might be able to insure it under your parents name and have them add you as a secondary driver, not sure why they are saying that no one under 25 would be able to drive. Sure it will cost more for someone who is 16. Generally if you are 25 or older you can get a policy like that because it is cheaper. I've never heard of them saying that they would not insure it so a 16 year old could drive it.
- Car insurance is an ongoing financial obligation. In every state I'm aware of, you can not enter into an ongoing financial obligation until you are an adult at age 18 or better. This means you can not get insurance except through a parent by being added to their policy. Then you have the additional problem that a car considered a classic and being a power car with a 454 engine cannot be driver by anyone under 25. Park it, or sell it, and have your parent get you a nice Honda in their name with you added as driver to drive.
- Your screwed. All the good classic car insurance companies require at least 18 years of age and most of the really cheep ones require 25 years of age. Your most affordable and achievable bet is to have a older relative insure and register it in there name. You may want to have a written contract explaining the conditions of the title, insurance and registration being in that persons name in case they get greedy. Or you could always just put the car in storage and get a storage policy from a insurance broker, but then you cant drive that boss car.
- Asking an insurance company is the only way you may ever know the answer. No person here get the clear idea.Call around !
