New car discounts - what should I expect?
How much discount could I negotiate from a new car/motorbike dealer when paying cash please?

- varies from dealer to dealer and car to car
- Paying cash won't lower the price 10 cents. If anything it will raise the price because it might take a while to count it. The dealer couldn't care less if he gets a check from a bank or cash from you.
- Varies sooo much. Some give no discount at all and some give more at certain times than others and also depending on how they are doing with their sales targets. Most car magazines give a target price to go for when buying new but for bikes unless they are last years new old stock do not expect a discount at all right now.
- It's going to depend on the vehicle and the dealership. If it's a vehicle they don't sell a lot of, they'll be willing to move a little on the new price. If not, then don't expect much if any. But you also have to check out what the incentives are. I suggest you spend a little more time researching what vehicle you want first, then look at the incentives available. That will give you a idea as to where to start. The positive thing about paying cash is that you only have to pay the state sales tax (if applicable), and that's where you can save a handful. good luck
- Paying cash wont bring the price down. I asked for a discount last August when buying a new Peugeot 207SW and they offered a big fat zero. I wasn't trading in and was paying by Debit Card. It depends on how desperate they are to sell and obviously at the time I went they must have had lots of folk buying new cars.
