I want to buy a japanese hybrid car / any electromagnetic radiation hazard ?

I would like to buy a japanese hybrid car. My consideration is the existence of EMF radiation inside the car due to the operation of the battery. Is there any significant health hazard for the passenger (i.e. exposure to radiation) ?

  1. Well...companies would say no. I would say absolutely yes. Since the car is running solely on electricity at some point (and a hefty charge at that) there will be some EM Radiation in these vehicles. Though to tell you the truth all modern cars have some EM radiation due to the electronics in the car...can't really escape it. I would suspect that the transmission lines are heavily shielded in these cars to prevent electrocution which would reduce the field somewhat. At the end of the day since you're not living in the car it's going to be no worse than having a cell phone at your ear (if you're that type of person). Don't ask about "health hazards" on here. No one is willing to come out and say it will make you sick with all the electromagnetic radiation in technology (because it would cut into their bottom line and no one would fund long term studies that threaten "convenience"). Let me say this...there's a good reason why people don't get cat scans every day (I guess now they do if they go to the airport...). Electromagnetic radiation is not GOOD or even BENIGN for you regardless of what any scientist or study says; you can't escape it but you can attempt to limit it.
  2. Is this a joke? Of course not.
  3. I think you need to do your homework and decide for yourself. There are too many different "opinions" out here in the wild yahoo answers, compared to facts. If you are worried about EMF, you need to decide whether or not, the posted safe standards meet your acceptability. A hybrid car can have a very small electric motor, a big one, a couple of smaller ones etc. And they are located in different parts of the car depending on type and manufacturer, including at the wheels and in the transmission. If you look at the difference between say, a hybrid and one of the new electric cars, the electric car will have the bigger electric motor. But what level of EMF are you worried about. A normal car has a starter, which is an electric motor, an alternator (more or less the same deal), a heater blower motor (electric), a radio/mp3 player, speakers etc, all which can produce EMF. Bottom line, for me, is that it meets acceptable standards, but it may or may not meet yours.
  4. Take potassium iodide just in case! lol
