When Getting a car insurance quote, what it is a registered keeper?
Me and my girlfriend are going to buy a car. I will be paying for the car as I will have a better credit rating. But as I have only just passed my test and my girlfriend has had her licence for 2 years we want to put her as the main driver and me as a named driver. So when we are asked If she is the "Registered Keeper" what do we say? will it be me as I will be the owner of the car? Will this affect the quote if I am the keeper and she is the main driver?

- Correct - Registered keeper is as it sounds... who has bought, owned, registered the car (i.e. you!)
- The registered keeper is the person whose name appears on the registration document from the DVLA. Although this is usually the owner of the vehicle, it does not imply ownership as a right.
- The registered keeper is one who is printed on the V5C Vehicle Registration Certificate. "Will this affect the quote if I am the keeper and she is the main driver?" It may do. Don''t even bother saying it's her, if it's not as this will cause further problems.
- If your girlfriend is the main driver and you are the 'named driver' then most insurance companies will insist that your girlfriend is the registered keeper and/or owner of the vehicle. If you are the registered keeper/owner then they will expect you to be the main driver, otherwise they will consider it '"fronting".
