I have a judgement against me but want to buy a car with cash....?
I have a judgement against me from caital one and was served papers not too long ago. The debt is about $1800. My question is if I buy a car in cash for$ 6500 can they take my vehicle to pay the debt? I need the vehicle in order to get to work to be able to pay the debt. Should I buy the car or put it in my fiance's name who has no judgements against him? Thanks!

- If it has already been decided, I don't think they can just amend it by taking your vehicle. I don't think they seize assets, I've only heard of the IRS doing that. Unless you got the car from them, which you didn't.
- The intelligent thing to do would be take your $6500 cash and pay off the $1800 judgement and then buy a $4700 car. You've been sued. You lost, you owe them $1800. You don't need a $6500 car, you just need a car. Pay off the judgement and put it behind you and then move on with your life.
- Yes, I believe they can. although theyll most likely garnish your wages instead. the prudent thing to do is pay it off before buying the car. most creditors will allow you to pay less than what you owe. But if you dont plan on doing the prudent thing then put the car in fiances name just to be safe.
- They can't take the vehicle. THey can make you pay off the lien before you sell it
