Can you ship your car from one country to another?

Let's say you have an old beater in a foreign country and you're coming to the US. You're trying to sell off your car in the local market but you're not getting a fair price on it selling it used. You know the used-car market will be dodgy in your destination country and you probably won't get as reliable a car for the same price there. Is it cheaper just to drive it onto a container ship and ship it to yourself in your destination country?
