what is the best car to modify and tune for under $5000?

im lookin to buy my first car. i want something i can modify tune and all that stuff but i only have about $5000 to spend. what car would be best?

1. Get a Fox chassis Mustang (81-91). They are readily available, have a v-8 and are still reasonable. And the best part is the amount of bolt on goodies you can get.
2. Probably a Honda Civic or a mustang
3. get a civic, nissan 240sx or a RSX they last long and are very cheap to modify. all aftermarket parts are easy to find for them and are of course cheap.
