Where can I find classic car insurance for a 17 year old?
Hey guys I've recently received a classic 1992 Mazda Miata from my dad, which has been a treasured possession of our family for a number of years. I myself am now a member of the owners club and take great care of the car, but am obviously unable to drive it without insurance. While insuring the car with a normal provider would be far too expensive for me (at 17 years), classic car insurance is not only cheaper but fits my needs far better. I was wondering if anyone knows of a classic car insurer who would be willing to insure me, taking into account my situation? Thanks, Laurence

- I would be happy to be proved wrong but as far as i remember Classic car insurance is not available to people under 25. Not knocking your car but i would not have thought that a 92 car would come under Classic car insurance.
- You'll struggle to get classic insurance on a '92 MX5 at your age. All you can do is phone around some classic car insurers. Google will give you a few names to try.
- dont think a 92 mazda car will come under classic car no offence its just a old car , - it may look prestene and spotless or a head turner but certainly not a classic car as far as car insurance is concerned but some insurers do have a thing about cars over 15 year old ive nver heard of a classic mazda the 1 day car insurance companys sometimes will not insure u for 1 day on a car older than 12 - 13 yeaar old but im sure thats for people who do this for illigal reasons ie smashing into there sposes 2011 car etc or other fraud claims
- No way - they will see it as a dodge to get around the normal premiums and so do not do classic cover for youngsters. Even if they did it would be restrictive in that they would not allow commuting and the mileage would be restricted too. I may be wrong but in my eyes a 19 year old vehicle is just old and not a classic. Classic is an often misused word when describing vehicles.
- Classic car insurance often comes with restrictions on how many miles can be put on the car, and when it can be driven. So if you do go this way, using it as a daily driver is out of the question.
- Just make sure that you get loads of quotes before going with the first one you call!what I do is shop around
- Call a local independent agent in your area. they write for a lot of companies and will do the research for you to find the best company at the best rate. stay away from "do it yourself" policies online. they NEVER come in at the rate quoted. its always best to have an agent handle things for you so that you have them locally when you need help and they-re aware of you and your needs.
- As most posters have said, the Mazda MX5 ( Miata not imported into UK ) does not qualify for 'Classic Car insurance. This is usually reserved for cars of 25 years old or more, & restricted to around 3000 miles a year or less. If it is to be used daily then it will be impossible to stick to this limit
