Can i sell a junk car without the title?

my car was in an accident and not worth fixing. so i sold it for parts. can i sell the rest to a junkyard without the title? in los angeles, ca. my son lost the title. the car is paid off and registered as non-operational with the dmv. i have seen ads where people will buy junk cars without the title, is it safe to do so?

1. what happened to the title? the junkyard needs the title
2. The scrap yard needs to be sure you are the legal owner. You need to have the title. I suspect you still owe on it which makes this situation illegal. Any time a car is financed there must be full coverage insurance in force.
3. Some, but not all junkyards will buy it without a title. You just have to swear you own it free & clear.
