What are the best cars to have for a first car, cheap insurance?

I just passed my test a month ago, and my dad's looking at spending around 2000 on a car. All I'm interested in is a car that is not too old which safely gets me from A to B. Cheap insurance is a MUST, so what are some good cars to have as my first car, which fit in to this budget? (the budget does not include the car insurance)

2. You better get a bus pass as you will not get insurance for under £2500/year being a new driver. The cheapest insurance group is 1 so look for those cars (Google it).
