I have a very old car to sell to a junk yard and don't know what procedure I need to go through. Any ideas?
I have a 10 year-old car to throw away to a junk yard. I don't know what procedure I need to go through to avoid any problems after I sell my car to a junk yard guy. Can anyone with any experience like this give me some suggestions? Thanks~!

- you tow the car to the junk yard. bring the title. they will give you a couple hundred bucks.
- 10 years is not really that old, but if it's not repairable and you want to scrap it, just call a few junkyards to see what they will give you for it and if they will come pick it up. As long as you have the title and sign it off to them and get them to sign a bill of sale (handwritten should be ok), you will be ok.
- Make sure you sign over the registration and pink slip. Check with your local DMV for forms. Sometimes junk yards provide the forms but you want to make sure to handle the paperwork yourself so the junk yard doesn't screw it up.
- a scrap yard will give you more money for a junk yard. Our local yard pays a flat $325 for any vehicle WITH a title. Without a title....well...you're on your own.
- Do didn't indicate what state your car is titled in. In most states, you will need to give the junk yard the title and lien release if there was a loan on the car. There is another alternative you can consider. That is donating your vehicle to charity. If you do, you will get a tax deduction of $500 or the amount the charity sells your car for whichever amount is more. You may actually end up better off financially by donating it.
