How to obtain info from Car Insurance Companies?

I plan to do a bit or research into how car insurance companies conduct there business & would like to send letters requesting info to various companies. The info is none personal & would only comprise of the average insurance charge income per year & the average Insurance payout cost per year & the number of filed claims. This is just a study to post onto my site for everyone to see but i am not sure the best way to go about asking for the information. Has anyone got any experience in this sort of field as this is relativity new to me & need some advice. Thanks

  1. Have you heard the saying "and Pigs might fly". No Insurance company is going to tell you that.
  2. You can ask but if you think they are going to tell you sensitive commercial information you are are crazy as they just don't have to and will not.
  3. To be fair, I think you will struggle to get that information. I've worked for various insurance companies going back over 30 years. During that time, I cannot remember a time when we weren't very busy. You have paperwork coming at you from all angles. It all has deadlines and it is very rare that you don't have a backlog. You really don't get a minute to yourself. Customer's want cheap premiums, and those cheap premiums come at a cost, which means understaffing to keep costs low. If we get a letter from a customer, we have to respond. That customer has paid good money for us to provide a service, so we will respond to their letter. We simply cannot stop dealing with paperwork that customers are waiting for to send letters out to non customers. It would be too time consuming and is of no benefit to the business. Have you heard of industrial espionage? It is where a business tries to find out secure information about a rival business. That is another reason we would not give out such information. Only people working within our business need to know our premiums, so we would not pass them on to a third party except for when they apply for a quote.
  4. Try asking an insurance company...Oh wait.....
