Should I go to UTI (Universal Technical Institute) or Wyo-tech? ..for performance mechanics schooling.?
At first I was thinking Wyotech because of the fact that I watch the show Overhaulin' and alot of their techs went to that school. Then for UTI I've seen more adds in magazines like Import Tuner and such. Then went to the site and UTI seems to have more electives like leaning more towards the import scene (which is what I'm interested in) and then they have it where you can choose to specialize in certain dealership programs that they offer. They just added Nissan and I like many of their cars. What are your opinions?

- I can’t speak for UTI, but I can tell you that WyoTech offers a variety of automotive tech program specialties. The core WyoTech automotive program provides the basis for its specialty training in High Performance Powertrains. Check out the links below for more info about those training programs. I work with WyoTech, so you know what my opinion is. I think the strength of WyoTech programs is that all the classes are geared for hands-on training. And the classes are taught by instructors who have “been there, done that.” These instructors have a lot of experience to share with students—and many of them have even owned their own shops at one time. They provide students with insights and life experience that you just can’t find in textbooks. Another strength is that WyoTech has a great career placement department. Companies visit the campus regularly to recruit graduates for various types of jobs. Check out the career assistance video link below to learn more about how WyoTech helps graduates with finding work. I highly recommend talking with WyoTech students and alumni about our programs. They’ll give you the best perspective about our classes and training. As you know, choosing to attend an automotive school is a big decision. It means moving to a new location and dedicating a solid 9-months to a year wrenching on engines. It’s hard work, but it’s an experience that will last you a lifetime. As you research automotive schools, make sure to get copies of catalogs and find out what type off accreditations the campus has. The auto tech programs aren’t for everyone. You need to be serious about wanting to learn about engines—and really want to hang around other guys and girls who can talk shop all day. I wish you the best as you spend time researching different schools. And if you ever have any other questions about WyoTech, please send me an email. Best wishes on whatever decision you make.
