Does anybody know where I can get cheap car insurance?

I have no accidents or tickets. My husband has 1 accident where he was NOT at fault. We are getting OUTRAGEOUS quotes on insurance for the one vehicle we have which is an 11 year old 4 cyl. SUV. I am a stay-at-home mom & my husband drives approx. 10 miles to work a day. We are at a loss as to why the premiums we are being quoted are so high. We do have a small loan on the vehicle so we need more than just basic liability. Does anyone know of or have good, cheap insurance that you can hook me up with? Thanks!

  1. You cna get cheap insurance from several providers, but you have to waive collision coverage and specify the bare minimum for all the required coverages. All you're really paying for is an Insurance Card to show the police when they pull you over-- it won't really give you anything. But look at it this way: If yoou have an , it's the other guy's fault, and their insurance company will pay. Drive safely!
  2. I would try your state's Farm Bureau Insurance company. My husband used them until we got married, and you don't have to be a farmer to use their products. (I think more people don't use them because they assume you have to be a farmer!) They offer EXCEPTIONALLY low rates. Also, there are websites on the internet such as: http://www.progressive.com that allow you to compare car insurance premiums. If you want to save time, you can use a service like this. However, I would almost guarnatee they will not give you the cheapest rates. I would call their competitors personally to get the best rates. Another option would be to call your insurance and ask them to review your premium for cost savings. If they refuse, tell them you have found a cheaper rate and wish to cancel your premium. (This usually lights a fire under their hind end and will cause them to do whatever they can to maintain your business.) You can get a better rate. Your driving record is good, and it sounds like you are established. Just do some shopping. Good luck! :)
  3. You can use this page to get some quick quotes from arious major insurance companies so that you can get a general idea of what to expect. http://www.dmv.org/car-insurance.php
  4. Insurance rates are greatly affected by the state you are in, the vehicle itself (it's not necessarily true that older cars are cheaper to insure, your age, your driving record and your credit history. Maybe you can lower the quoted premiums by accepting higher deductibles?
