Where can I go for cheap car insurance for a young male driver?
My 17 year old is taking lessons but we've discovered that the cost of adding him to our car insurance is prohibitive. I'd really like him to be able to drive our car as my husband is disabled and I also look after my 80 year old mother so having somebody else in the family with a licence will be a real boon, but the current quotes for adding him to my insurance seem to be pushing the cost up from £260 per year to £250 per month!

- Go to swiftcover.com it's the cheapest place by far that I found.
- Quinn direct tend to be cheap for young drivers. Passplus should knock 25% off. check www.ukdrive.co.uk
- I found tesco car insurance quite reasonable, also try sainsburys, esure, elephant they all seem ok
- Try esurance.com or geico.
- try another country lol what kinda car is it a bmw m3
- I always use A Quote insurance and have found them cheap. It seems so unfair that a newly qualified driver should be penalised. There are several things you can do. Buy a car in a smaller insurance bracket. Put your son through the Advanced Driving Test, this will reduce your premiums. Restrict the number of miles you do and avoid driving at night, probably not very practical with an elderly mother. £260 a year on your insurance is not too steep and after the first year it should reduce.
- i had the same problem when i first started driving i went with a company called hyperformance who specialise in cheaper car insurance for young drivers
- Make a deal with him... tell him he can use the car if he pays for his own insurance... We did that with our 17 year old son, so he was forced to go out and get an after school job... he now pays us for his insurance... he has his own car... the idea of a job scared him at first... but he has now learned responsibility... something every kid his age needs to succeed in life !
- DO NOT ASK FOR A QUOTE TO ADD THE KID TO YOUR POLICY!!! IF THE COMPANY FINDS OUT THERE IS A KID, THEY WILL JACK YOUR RATES EVEN IF HES NOT ON THE POLICY... They call it "automatic family protection contract" or something like that... translation being if theres a kid in the house and they get hint of it, they're gonna rape you. I did a "what if" quote to add a kid onto my policy and they automatically added him to it under a family protection thing. So Im left to go find a different company and keep my mouth shut. STAY AWAY FROM GEICO... THEY ARE THE ONES WHO RAPED ME of my $. PROGRESSIVE RAPES EVERYONE TOO!
- some are cheap
