Can i modify seat covers, so they are safe on a car with side airbags?

Hey everyone. I need seatcovers on my car really bad, but it has side airbags. My questions is: is it possible to modify usual seatcovers, so they don't prevent the side airbags from deploying? I don't wonna buy special seatcovers because they are a little bit too pricy for me. Thankyou.

1. what do covers have to do with it...the bags dont come out of the seats....do they?

3. Yeah, they do come out of the seats on some cars at least(VW). They say not to use any seat covers on the seats. Sounds like a roll of the dice to cover them,to me. Never know what could happen.
